    Animal Management Training

    Wednesday 23 September 2026
    51 Taylor Street, Kadina

Copper Coast Council is holding Animal Management Training in Kadina and has invited LGAPA member councils to send staff along. Places are open to authorised officers from any council.

The workshop is facilitated by Dr Tracey Henderson and focuses on early intervention — reading dog and cat body language, turning that into a practical risk assessment, and making safe decisions in the field. In line with Fear Free certification, no live animals are used; the training uses detailed video footage from behaviour clinics, partnering council facilities and field officers.

    Half day — Animal Safe

    08:30–11:30  |  $297 inc GST  |  morning tea included

Module 1 only — fundamental dog body language and behaviour.

Suited to inspectors, in-home services, maintenance teams and anyone who meets dogs as part of the job but isn't required to handle or capture animals.

    Full day — Animal Management

08:30–16:30  |  $597 inc GST  |  morning tea and lunch included

All four modules, including the practical capture and handling session.

Suited to new and experienced Animal Management Officers, local laws staff, rangers, shelter staff, rescue charities, groomers and animal sitters.

    What the full day covers

    1. Dog body language and behaviour — high-risk behavioural characteristics, the effects of fear, anxiety and stress, safe approach, exit strategies and PPE.
    2. Cat body language and behaviour — feline-specific signals and why cats can't be read like dogs, applied to safe handling and containment.
    3. Safe capture and handling — practical session covering control measures, restraint equipment, transport and housing.
    4. Mental health disorders and training problems — telling the two apart and responding appropriately to barking, escaping and biting.

Bookings close 7 days before the workshop — Wednesday 16 September 2026. Cancellations before that date are refunded in full or credited to future training. Payment online or by invoice.

Book a place or request an invoice

Enquiries about the Kadina session can go to Simon at Copper Coast Council.
